How Google Measures PageRank
There are 2 major factors that will influence the strategies that Google and other search engines will rank your webiste:

1 Keyword Optimization
2 Link Popularity

Link Popularity
You can enhance your site ranking by building links with sites that are related to your internet site or sites that share related content and a good page rank.

How Google Measures Page Rank one what's Google PageRank?
Google's "PageRank" is the one criterion for working out the relevancy of any net page in relation to the specified search phrase. By downloading the google toolbar at http://toolbar.google.com you can view the ranking of any page that is mentioned on Google. If you've got a 0/10 ranking, then you most likely aren't even listed on Google. You want to have as high of a ranking as possible.

Google's complex, automated strategies make human fiddling with our results very tough.

2 How Does Google Measure PageRank?
Essentially, The PageRank of an internet page is worked out as a sum of the PageRanks of all pages linking to it (its incoming links), divided by the number of links on each of those pages (its outgoing links ).

Glaringly the more of these, the better, but also no incoming link can have a negative effect on the PageRank of the page it points at. HAVE MANY SITES LINK TO YOUR WEBSITE

2 Number of Outgoing Links on the page that point to your page. The less of these, the better. HAVE MANY SITES LINK Totally TO YOUR WEBSITE

3 Quality of Inbound Links. Another facet of this system is that inbound links from 'significant' sites will in theory give you more of a lift than inbound links from 'insignificant' sites. HAVE MANY SITES WITH A HIGH PAGERANK LINK EXCLUSIVELY TO YOUR WEBSITE

4 Relevancy of Inbound Links. Ultimately , inbound links from sites that contains similar content to yours will give you an bigger boost. It's a big issue with Google. We are able to only guess as to how the precise search engines really implement this concept. This is an example of their secrets.

5 Checking Inbound Link Popularity
Google gives a special toolbar to determine the page rank of a visited page. In the toolbar a green line indicating the rank of the page inside one to ten shows the page importance. One can check the quantity of links pointing to a website (link popularity) by querying Google with the search keywords link:http://webhosting-pages.com.

Website Optimization kick-off to success

Balancing everything they know about e-commerce and web design is what online entrepreneurs have to do if they want a shot at success. It sounds easy enough, yet still raises a very important question: despite all the available information and assistance to them, why do some businesses book better results than their competitors?
Like with everything in life, this question too has more than one answer, and to fully understand what all is involved, it is best to break the explanation down into simple steps.

Step 1 - Find Help
Pride is not always a good trait to have, especially when it comes to e-business. In that case it can cost you a lot of great sales and valuable profits. If you lack skills and knowledge on how to build an effective website, or deal with aesthetics, usability, copywriting, marketing strategy, seo, visibility, pay per click, keywords, search engine optimization, and more, it may be in your best interest to admit it and seek professional help.

Step 2 - It is not a 1-time Project
If you think that building a website, improving it, and launching a marketing strategy is a one-time affair, think again! Continuous Improvement and Website Optimization are vital to the survival of your e-business and cannot be neglected after their initial application has been completed. They need to be continuously monitored and improved, because the virtual world is always in motion and situations can change. For example: keywords may need altering as your assortment of goods and services grows, and website content should often be refreshed and enriched. Analyze your traffic flow and adjust your applications and features to reach higher search engine rankings. Remember, your competition never sleeps!

Step 3 - Always testing
Paying attention to frequent testing is one of the most vital actions you can take to guarantee success. Everything you do needs to work perfectly, because if there is one tiny link missing in your big chain of success, it will fall apart in seconds. Just ask yourself how you feel when you visit a website and it is loading slowly because of too many graphics or flash animations. Will you stick around? Will you enjoy reading merchandise descriptions if they are uninformative and riddled with spelling mistakes? Also, will you be able to buy from a shop where the shopping cart link is broken, or the payment option page is missing?

Step 4 - Set a Budget
Because the optimization process of your Website and e-business is an ongoing project, it would be wise to budget for upgrades and maintenance. Your budget amount will depend on the services, features and tools you want to acquire. How much advertising are you planning? Will you sign up for Google AdWords, or hire a copywriter? The more you can handle the day-to-day procedures yourself the less expense you will have. But, remember Step 1... If you are unfamiliar with some e-commerce concepts, either hire someone to do the job, or find a professional who will teach you.

Step 5 - Learn from mistakes, rejoice the victories
Nobody is perfect and it is inevitable that mistakes will happen. When errors occur simply make a note of them and correct them. Learn from what happened and next time you run tests also include the problems you have recently fixed. To keep your customers and loyal followers happy and content you have to stay on top of your glitches. If for some reason you are unable to fix your problems right away, always let your visitors know. They will appreciate your efforts; they will feel involved and will definitely return when you are totally back up and running.

Should You Go For Directory Submissions?

Directory submissions seem to be one of the main ways of building link popularity used by many SEO companies out there. When you pay for a directory submission service, your SEO company submits your URL to 400 or 500 (sometimes 1000) directories out there on the web. SEO companies claim that directory submissions is one of the fastest ways of improving link popularity.

While directory submissions increase your link popularity, they do not help you with the traffic or your rankings much. Increasing link popularity is totally different from increasing your rankings. There are some websites with only 200 links ranking higher than websites with over 2000 links. The reason of their ranking high is because SEO has now become a game of link quality.

The first reason why directory submissions pass minimal to no link juice is because they contain only links and no content. And for that reason, most of them have another fancy name: link farm. Because of the lack of content, search engines stop favoring web directories and make sure that their outgoing links do not pass a lot of value.

That being said, another reason of their low link value is that everyone is submitting their link to the directories in order to get link juice but no one is passing link juice to them. It is not hard to imagine each category of a directory to have over 200 outbound links. This also goes without saying that directories have a very high percentage of spam.

Directories also do not provide enough traffic to the target websites because no one uses directories as a navigation system. People normally Google up anything they want to find. Even though directories were thought of as a navigation tool, they do not function that way anymore.

However, there are a few high quality directories out there like Yahoo Directory and DMOZ, which can provide you with a lot of link juice. The downside for inclusion into them is the high fee that they charge.

In the end, my advise to you would be to be wary when you pay for a directory submission service as the return that you are getting is quite minimal. Keyword Research and Malware

As most Search Engine Marketing companies will point out, the most vital part of an SEO campaign is choosing the right keywords. No matter what industry you are in, having the right blend of primary and niche terms can be the difference between getting thousands of targeted hits per week, to getting 0 hits per week. With niche terms, just nailing a handful of top 3 terms can be the equivalent of getting one primary top 3 term in Google. So it is important to choose the right keywords on the outset.

One of the ways these can be chosen is using tools like freekeywordtool from Google, which gives a breakdown of some of the most popular terms on the Search Engine. But, as easy as this may be, one needs to be aware of the possibility for targeting the wrong terms. It is very easy now to not only be linked to/from a malware sites, but it’s just as easy to target terms that are related to malware sites. Hackers are most devastating when they are in a position to draw a large number of users. A popular technique for doing so is to monitor current events such as celebrity scandal, natural tragedy, holiday deals, and popular music. Once hackers are able to determine “what’s in”, they are able to strike.

Some of the most “riskiest” terms are words like; lyrics, solitaire, free ringtones, and others. To get a more comprehensive list you can search for “riskiest terms” in Google and you should be able to view some of the terms that need to be avoided.

The technique of 'black hat' involves the usage of deceptive and, therefore, illegal methods which are highly undesirable.

Out of these three techniques, the white hat technique falls into the realm of ethics and the black hat technique dwells in an unethical domain. Hence, one of the features of a good SEO company is the usage of the white hat technique in its endeavour of providing SEO services.

SEO services also include a proper usage of keywords and, therefore, it is the duty of a good SEO service provider to effectively enhance the scope of opportunities by using the proper manner of keywords.

Does Google Hate SEO’s?

Seems like a constant backfiring is going on between Google and SEO’s, with both ends unhappy with each other. Where Google has streamlined its “rules”, the SEO marketers are just not willing to swallow them in. The matter remains intense and raises an important question, does Google hates SEO’s? As far as my opinion is concerned, I would like to go with a well-thought “NO”, Google does not hate

SEO’s, but it surely does hate over smart SEO’s on the block!
There is no use of going over and over the debate by cursing Google or Matt Cutts like the others do, as for me, I’d like to rely more on my common sense. And using that common sense, here are a few things that pop into my mind:

• Google likes competition, and it keeps testing the SEO’s by constantly tweaking the search algorithms and causing more and more difficulties for them. We don’t know how in such a short time SEO got sentenced and penalized with the terms like keyword stuffing, hidden text—in short, “black hat SEO practices”…maybe this is just another way to test the extent to which the SEO’s will thrive for getting websites appear in the top search rankings. So for all the Internet marketers out there—don’t panic and keep your fists tight, you have got some pretty hard challenges coming your way.

• Another thing that’s quite obvious is that every firm, company, and organization has a set of rules and principles that it follows and does not let anyone operate outside that defined policy. In a similar manner, Google has its rules—you don’t follow and you’re out of the game! Anyone who exploits or misuses the SEO platform by deceiving and manipulating the search engines gets his piece of fine by being considered as spam or being banned for life.

• Google hates deception, true! But SEO’s love deceiving—that’s for sure! So unless and until one of these doesn’t bend, things aren’t going to settle down. Now here, I must side with Google and admit it’s the SEO’s doing wrong. Google in fact, has gone above board in not only supporting but practically devising tools for a smooth SEO process including guidelines, webmaster tools, API access and blogs etc. If Google hated SEO’s, would it be foolish enough to go to such an extent and help them out? Don’t know about you, but I don’t think so!

• Commonly we have always witnessed one side of the story. We have always seen internet marketers killing themselves to get their identity flash on Google pages. Yes we all know SEO’s need Google as the hype prevalent among the SEO community is “get higher search engine ranking”. This phrase has made Google the king, while SEO’s the poor public running after the king and obeying every order that trickles down from it. What we fail to see is the other side of grass which is much greener than the one we typically see. Google is a search engine and it can’t operate itself unless some efforts are made to optimize it. In order to serve people and operate well, it has to be used, and the only way it can be used is through Search Engine Optimization.

• The most logical and realistic explanation validating my answer of how Google “not” hates SEO’s comes now. Can you hate someone earning money for you? Ok, most of you can even answer a “yes” to this one so here’s another; would you stop someone from earning money for you and create trouble for them while they work? Obviously no! So how can you expect Google to demolish the SEO practices when SEO actually makes a bulk of money for it? These bucks are made through organic campaigns and paid search campaigns (PPC) that make use of programs like AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, adCenter and much more.

In conclusion I would say: a cold war is in progress between the two entities. This is the war between two rivals whose goals are the same (giving users a good search experience) but the approach is totally different. There is a need for them to acknowledge issues simultaneously and lay down principles that both can happily follow without blaming the other, because whether Google or SEO’s admit it or not, they both are interdependent on one another.

Facts that can harm your search engine ranking

Not only that Search Engine Optimization is necessary for better ranking on the search engine result pages but also it is important to design your website SEO friendly so that the optimization could be done more efficiently. But it is often seen that some mistakes generally occur that can harm the ranking of the website. Here follows some of them that are most often noticed.

1.Design of the website: Proper designing of the website is a very crucial one. It should always be taken good care of that the website is designed in a perfect SEO friendly way. There should not be any frames, which are often done to save web designers designing times, and also the use of large graphics which takes more time to load, these all effects the listing in Search Engine. You should try to use low-resolution file if the high-resolution files are not that much required. If there is the need of using large images then try to them in thumbnail form so that they can be opened in a separate page. This also provides the chances of creating more pages and more text.

2.Content writing: Content has also a very crucial role to play in getting better ranking. They should be well written and also must have targeted keywords and phrases. If content is written properly, you can make more targeted keyword and appropriate phrases. Absence of targeted keyword and phrases can destroy the link of your site. Therefore there is always the need for well-written contents and periodical updating of them.

3.Duplicate contents: You should also never copy contents from other’s websites. This can result in your website being charged of spamming by the search engines. This can also have negative effects on your ranking and you may also suffer penalty.

4.Cloaking: There are some sites that contains contents that are specially designed for the search engine. These are not at all user-friendly sites. This is known as cloaking site. Several techniques are used in these sites so that the search engines may think that the site contains very relevant contents. But this is not at all a fair means and can result in penalty if found out. Therefore it should be avoided as far as possible.

5.Links: The proper navigation of the site and linking is also very important. As for example clicking on a link on your site opens in a new window it means that the site is not well linked. It is always better to link sites that are related to your business and ask them to link your site. Try to build quality links and this will result in bringing in more traffic to your site. The absence of back links and also broken links should be avoided as far as possible.

6.Over optimization: Sometimes putting on weight on the search engine ranking results in over optimization. Having a too high keyword density may cause an over optimization penalty. And also it should be taken care of that your website is more user-friendly rather than thinking of search engines only. This would automatically give you better ranking in turn.

Keywords For Websites – Advice On Choosing The Most Profitable Keywords For Your Website

As a basic principle of search engine optimization, the importance of effective keyword research is well understood. It is the selection of the most appropriate keywords that will drive free search engine traffic to your site. What is less well understood, though, is that the choices you make about which keywords you use can also directly affect how profitable those website visitors are.

Part of selecting the best keywords is about choosing keywords most likely to be used by people interested in whatever it is your website is about. That way the visitors who arrive at your site are far more likely to spend time on it, buy something, follow an affiliate recommendation, etc. If the keyword you use is unrelated to what your website is about, the visitors will quickly move on. Taking this a step further, however, you can carefully select keywords that mean the visitors arriving at your site are far more likely to take whatever action it is that you most want them to.

For example, if you have a site selling abstract paintings, you could choose ‘paintings’ as a keyword. If you managed to compete against all the other sites using this, you would get lots of visitors who were actually more interested in other types of paintings than abstract ones. If you chose ‘abstract paintings’ instead, you would then get people who were definitely interested in something to do with abstract paintings, but many of whom had no intention of buying one. If you select ‘buy abstract paintings’ then you really are getting to the visitors who are going to bring you some money, and if you use ‘buy abstract paintings now’, they have probably already got their credit card out!

So choosing a keyword that homes in on who your ideal visitors are might rule out some of the other traffic, but by having the right visitors in the first place you could get more income from far less people, as the rate of conversion to sales would be much higher. The same principle obviously applies even if you do not sell goods directly. Choosing keywords for a site recommending affiliate products would work in exactly the same way.

If you bear this in mind when doing your keyword research, you can begin to design a site that is far more likely to attract visitors that will actually put money in your pocket. Effective keyword research is obviously the key to this technique, so you will need a research tool that will generate lots of new ideas and related subjects, which you can then drill down into to find those highly profitable words and phrases.

It is not possible to carry out effective keyword research without a good keyword tool, whether this is part of an SEO software package or a stand alone keyword tool. This is because there is no other way of knowing how many people are actually searching for those terms on a daily basis. To go back to my example, selecting ‘buy abstract paintings now’ is great in theory, but it is a waste of time unless I know that enough people are searching for it to bring me visitors.

How To Start With The Best Keywords For Seo!

Keywords play a very crucial part in SEO. Getting them wrong increases your odds of being unsuccessful in any business online. SEO would be a lot simpler if webmasters were taught how to properly select their keywords.

Here are the basic types of keywords:

1. Generic keywords: This category generally includes 1 or 2-word-keywords, which generically relate to the theme of your website. Examples of generic keywords are toys, used cars, xbos games, pizza places etc.

2. Long-tail keywords: This category usually comprises of three or four word keywords, which specifically relate to your website. Because the keywords are long-tail, they fully describe your area of expertise, product or service and therefore help in increasing your relevancy in the search engines. Examples include buy Mustang 1967, Medieval 2: Total War review, Max Payne high quality wallpapers etc.

If you are operating in a niche it is always a safe bet to start optimizing for the long-tail keywords in the beginning. Long-tail keywords provide traffic which is directly related to your product or service. For example, optimizing for the keywords "Mustang 1967 edition" will provide much more targeted traffic than optimizing for the term "used cars".

Although most people know that they should optimize for long-tail keywords, they are put off because of the lack of traffic available for these keywords. When they compare long-tail keyword traffic with generic keyword traffic, they always seem to prefer generic keywords. The total amount of traffic should not matter to you. What should matter to you is what your conversion rate is.

The problem with generic keywords is that although you do get more traffic, most of the traffic to your website will not convert into sales. So even if you get tons of traffic to generic keywords, it does not provide you an edge from a business perspective.

I would suggest targeting long-tail keywords in the beginning of your SEO efforts and then move into more generic keywords at a later time. Once you rank high for long-tail keywords, you will surely get a considerable amount of visitors which will quickly convert, increasing your profit.

Make sure you do not start with generic keywords in order to try to get more traffic. This approach will cost you a lot in SEO and make it very difficult to get traffic that converts.

Always make sure you have done a thorough keyword research before you start your SEO campaigns. Selecting the right keywordsis the difference between making thousands of dollars and not making a dime.

Keywords For Websites – How To Get The Right Keywords For Your Website – And Why It Matters

Choosing the right keywords is one of the most important aspects of search engine optimization. The keywords and phrases you choose can make an enormous difference to the amount of visitors your website receives. The best source of traffic to your site is free visitors from search engines, because they cost you nothing and you know they are searching for something related to whatever it is your site has to offer.

Getting the best keywords can make the difference between your website being found by thousands of free visitors or by no-one at all. The reason for this is that it is not enough just to choose words that sum up what your site is about or what you think visitors will enter into a search engine when they are seeking the information or product that your site offers. You may guess correctly at a phrase that lots of people search for every day, but if millions of other websites are all also targeting that same phrase, it is highly unlikely that you will show up near the top of the search results.

The importance of your web pages being near the top of the search results cannot be overstated. Many net surfers will not look beyond the first three results, and hardly any past the first three pages. If your site is not in the top thirty, your traffic will be negligible. So the trick with keywords is to choose the ones that people are definitely searching for, but which not too many other websites are competing for. That way you have a much better chance of getting to the top of the results pages and catching those people who are searching for that keyword.

You can check the number of websites competing for any keyword by doing a Google search for the word and putting quotation marks before and after it. The results of this search will only include those sites which actually feature that keyword, so just look for the number of results and that tells you how many sites you are in competition with. It is much better to come top of the search results for a keyword that is searched for twenty times a day than nowhere for one that is searched for two hundred times a day.

There is no point using any keyword, however, unless you know that people are actually searching for it, and the only way to find that out is to use a keyword research tool. There are many keyword research tools available, and needless to say some are better than others, and some cost more than others. Most search engine optimization tools will include a keyword tool as part of their package, or you can buy keyword tools separately. Either way, you should ensure that you find one that generates, and lets you explore, lots of keyword ideas, and which organises all your results and reports for you.

A good system will give you hundreds of keywords that you never even thought of using. You will find yourself with an awful lot of valuable data that you need to be able to store, analyse and report on, so your system needs to be able to accommodate this in a user friendly way.

Is Search Engine Optimisation Necessary?

That depends. If you had a restaurant, would it matter to you whether people knew that your restaurant existed? Sure, you could tell them you had a restaurant on an individual basis, but this is a rather slow way to build a business. By the time you had enough customers via word of mouth, you’d be out of business!

Search engine optimisation is necessary to ensure that your website ends up on the top Google pages or other search engine sites. Think about when you search for something on the internet. You type in your keywords and the pages appear. You probably check out the sites on pages one, two, maybe three if you’re dedicated enough to your search. More than likely, if you don’t find what you are looking for on those pages, you enter different keywords.

87% of visitors end up on a site from page one. In other words, if your site does not end up on page one via different keyword searches, you are missing out on a load of potential customers. It doesn’t matter what your site looks like or has to offer IF nobody can find you.

Search engines find your site based on relevant keyword content. You have to know which keywords to use by doing keyword research. You have to know where to place them (for instance, keywords in links are picked up more readily by search bots). You have to know how many times to place them. Keyword stuffed pages and articles are no longer search engine friendly.

All of this is equally important for your article marketing endeavours. Article marketing is a time-consuming and costly affair. Whether you outsource your articles or write them yourself, you need to be aware of proper keyword use. You need to know how to do keyword research as well. If you don’t, all of your time, effort and money will have been wasted.

Link-building is yet another avenue of search engine optimisation. Understanding link popularity and performing link analysis is hugely important in obtaining first page positions. Link-building is a fantastic way to increase your page ranking and narrow your target audience to better matched buyers, which will drive the right kind of traffic to your site!

The internet is obviously a global affair, meaning you have the ability to market your product or service to most of the world. Even if you have a local business, search engine optimisation is necessary to ensure that your site will be found ahead of your competitors.

Link Building Made Easy - 6 Effective Ways Of Seo

Successful SEO needs time, patience and consistency. If you are focusing on only one method of increasing you inbound links, you are not doing the best job. Many webmasters and SEOs think that concentrating on only one aspect of link building gives maximum results. In my opinion, you should try out every single technique related to link building and then keep only the ones that provide you results.

Here are some of the most important link building methods currently used by serious online marketers. While every method is different, having a good mix of these methods will ensure that your rankings keep increasing consistently:

1. High PR page links: This method is the most powerful out there! If you can manage to get an inbound link from a high PR page, you will increase your rankings dramatically. The only disadvantage of this method is that it is very costly to implemend.

2. High PR website links: Another important method for increasing your relevancy and rankings. These links are easier to get, because some websites just allow you tou submit your URL to them.

3. Article marketing: Article marketing is more of a long-term investment. I would suggest writing one article a day for your website and submitting it to at least 100 article directories through an article submission software such as Article Post Robot.

4. Social bookmarking: This method gives you tons of backlinks if you know how to use it. Make sure you use an automated software such as Bookmarking Demon to submit your unique content to hundreds of social bookmarking websites out there. You should be careful not to submit the same page again and again or you might be banned from the website(s).

5. Press release distribution: If you have a unique product or service, sending out a press release will ensure that you get interested people on your website in the least amount of time. Some established companies send out a press release every week to tell the public about their new products or service. This is a great way to increase your online exposure.

6. Directory submissions: A used and abused way, which now causes more damage than it helps. Most directories are now considered to be glorified link farms, which hold only links and no actual content. If you submit your website to too many low quality directories, you can be sure to get penalized. In short, stay away from this method.

Weeding Through Search Engine Optimization Services

Are you trying to figure out what the difference between different search engine optimization services are on the web? Are you stuck trying to figure out which SEO services you really need and which ones you can do without? Or do you simply want to pick a company to do your SEO work but have no idea who to trust or how to choose the best company for your expectations and price range?

Well, if the answer is yes then you may want to keep reading because there are a few things you should expect from an SEO company before you sign a contract with them. Trying to discern between different search engine optimization services on your own can be confusing, especially if you really only have a basic understanding of SEO. However, there are a few core concepts that you would look for in any business that you should look for in all search engine optimization services as well which will make your final decision much easier to make.

References ;-

Like any business, an excellent SEO organization should have available references that you can check before hiring them to complete a job. All search engine optimization services should have experience with clients and be able to point you to completed jobs much like a building contractor would.

If you are not offered any proof or at least a free trial to show their excellence then it is time to shut the door and move onto your next option. An online base is not an excuse for a lack of identity.

Honesty & Communication ;-

It is in your best interests to choose to receive search engine optimization services from a company that offers a reasonable time frame for completion even if it's not the fastest time table.

Chances are that if you are promised a completion time that blows you away it is probably not really possible or likely to happen. If the company is willing to lie about the length of your project what else

Range of search engine optimization services ;-

Search engine optimization services are becoming more diverse and more technical as time continues to pass. It used to be that a few dozen keywords and some minor adjustments could get you top billing, but now any trained SEO worker can tell you there is a great deal of additional work that goes into receiving a high search ranking. An excellent SEO company knows this and will have a variety of services to offer you along with flexible packages for clients who want to mix and match what they need done.

An Important Step in Optimizing Your Site

A very important step to optimizing your site is picking the right keywords. Just submitting your site to the search engines and crossing your fingers in hope that you land the right keywords is not the best route to take. There is a process that you need to take to ensure that you are picking the keywords that will bring the most traffic to your site.

This step in the search engine optimization is a very important step and no short cuts should be taken. There are many ways to you can approach this step. The first way to do this is to go to Google or Yahoo whatever search engine you prefer. Then you type in the keyword that you were thinking of targeting. If it is "cats" Then type in "cats" and then on the right hand side of the site you will see the number of results that would come up for cats. You can then alter the keyword based on the competition.

For example when you type in the word "cats" there are 17,600,000 listings. So that word might be too hard to compete with. So you could try changing to a more specific description. You could change the keyword to "house cats". Which has 12,200,000. Just adding the word house has lowered your competition. So that might be a good word to pick.

Another way to pick your keywords is to look up at your competitions URL's. See what they have listed after their domain name. That could be a good way to get some ideas.

Another good way to search your competition is with using a keyword discovery. In this step what you would do is type in the word you would like to use and the keyword discover will tell you how many times that word is searches and it will also give you some other ideas that you could use for that word.

The next step would be to type the keyword phrases that you have chosen in quotes. Then you will see the competition you have for that phrase. That will help you determine if you have picked good options to get you to the top of the list on these search engines.

It is a very tedious step in optimizing your site, but it is very important. Picking the right phrases and words will really help your ranking on the search engines. Always remember to take your time and it may take you a couple of times to get the right words that is going to bring the most traffic to your site.

Using SEO to Grab Traffic

So you are sitting there staring at your website and wondering what more you can do? You are generating some good traffic, but not enough to make the type of sales or advertising numbers you had originally hoped. People told you it would be easy to start a web business, but you are finding out otherwise. Have no fear, because you probably need to try some SEO techniques to grab yourself some much needed traffic.

You have heard of the various internet marketing techniques. There is viral marketing, social networking, reverse marketing and web site meta tags. Those are all very good techniques that can bring more traffic to your website. You may have even tried some of these techniques already. After all, generating traffic to your web site is the name of the game. You cannot very well sell anything if no one sees it.

There is another very good way to generate web site traffic that you may not yet have tried. It is called SEO or search engine optimization. SEO is a method of internet marketing that focuses on article or content based on or around subjects pertaining to your product or service. The articles can be strategically placed on article websites, blogs or other social networking sites in the hopes that they can drive some content to your web site.

The idea of SEO is that you will plug in popular keywords or phrases into your articles in such a way that they will move your articles up the chain of search engine favorites. At the end of your articles you will have links to your website and perhaps even a little information about your product or service. This way, you lure people in by your article and then direct them to your web site. It is really a great way to start grabbing some additional traffic, but it does take some time and work to produce the articles.

There are, however, some pitfalls. If you do not use SEO properly then you may over-saturate your articles with keywords. Not only does this make your articles hard to read, but it also could alert search engines to your articles as potential spam. If not done correctly, SEO could actually keep you from getting more hits! That is why you need to know a little bit about word density in articles.

In general, you want about at 3% to 5% keyword density in your articles. Once you are done with your article, there are many free websites that will help you determine your word density. "Spider" is one such website. You simply plug in the URL to your website into Spider and it will tell you the keywords and the word density of each. If the keyword density is not as you would like it, then you simply need to tweak the article to be more precise.

Using SEO can enhance your chances of getting some good, quality traffic to your website. Not only that, but you can put a ton of good content out there surrounding your product, building your brand and reputation as having something good!

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - An Overview

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) entails a maelstrom of techniques and tactics with the end goal being to improve the ranking of a particular website in the search results of major search engines. SEO can be broken down into two main categories, on site SEO and off site SEO.

On site SEO relies upon excellent content first and foremost. Content must be on topic, relevant, and contain a 5% - 8% keyword (words or phrases) density. This means that for every 100 words of content, five to eight keywords should be used. The keywords that will be used must be carefully researched using tools such as the free Google AdWords keyword tool. When choosing keywords, it is important to remember to think like the customer. What will they be searching for? These same keywords should also be embedded into the website source code via Meta, Title and Heading tags. This will help ensure a high page ranking for these search terms.

Also, the website should be organized with a clear hierarchical structure. Creating a site map will significantly enhance site structure and ability to be scanned by search engines. This will allow search engines to more efficiently scan the target website. The most important information on a given website should be placed at or near the top of the page. This will make it easier for search engines to find the content that you want them to find. Use text instead of images; search engines can only scan text, so all important information must be included in text. This should be done even if the message(s) being conveyed are duplicated in images, banners, etc.

Of even greater importance is off site SEO. This includes back linking to highly ranked sites. For example, you can submit articles to free online repositories with links to your target website embedded in the text. The Google search engine will interpret a page with many back links to highly ranked pages as being of greater importance, and will therefore increase its page ranking. Another tactic is to submit entries to a highly ranked online blog, with excellent content, important keywords and back links where possible. Furthermore, you can join appropriate, and highly ranked, online forums and post useful content with a signature containing a back link to the target website. You should submit your website to the major search engines' web indices. This will speed up and enhance the optimization process greatly.

SEO is a multifaceted endeavor, and requires ongoing maintenance and tuning. There are many competent companies that are dedicated to carrying out SEO campaigns. If page ranking is extremely important to you, consider outsourcing the project to a professional SEO company.

In any kind of activity, the need for research will always be there. In trying to tweak and update SEO, you need to ask yourself what you will try to change in your site. Backlinks Are Still the Major Website Traffic Stream

Let's start with this experiment. Go to Google, Yahoo or MSN and type "get it here" in the search box. Note the results on the first result pages and try to deduce why the results came out what they are!

Being on the first page of results on major search engines such as Google, Yahoo or MSN for certain keywords is the purpose of every search engine optimization project. Being at the first page, will bring free organic traffic and of course more business and value to the website. When optimizing for search engines, most optimizers concentrate on optimizing the website itself by enhancing titles, keywords, descriptions, image alts, page text and other factors that with no doubt are very important for any search engine optimization project. However, I noticed that webmasters get lazy when it comes to the most important factor that brings websites to the top of the search engine results.

At the time of writing this article, both Google and Yahoo returned quicktime.com in the first position for the "get it here" keyword. MSN returned the Adobe flash player page. The least amount of results was 354,000,000 search results.

When you go to either the adobe flash player page or the quick time player page and take notes from a search engine optimization prospective; "get it here" is not in the domain name, not in the title of the page, not in the keywords, not in the meta description, not in any alt of the images nor anywhere else in the pages text or html source code! Further, you can bet that you will get the same notes if you looked at all the web pages on the first result pages of Google, Yahoo or MSN. The question is: how did these pages get to rank high in search engines in such a way in spite the fact that they are irrelevant and not optimized for that specific keyword?

The domain name, title, meta description, keywords, image alts and page text are all important seo factors but they are obviously not the answer. The major search engine optimization factor is backlinks.

Optimizing your website's elements such as the keywords and your page texts is just the beginning. Those elements are important but they should only be considered as a preparation phase. The real work starts right after finishing this phase.

Adobe flash player and quick time is used by millions of users. You probably have encountered something similar to this sentence "This page requires flash player. If you do not have flash player installed get it here". The "get it here" is a backlink to the flash player page. Millions of websites have a link to the Adobe flash player page with "get it here" for the text of the link and with no doubts that's why adobe flash player is number one for the "get it here" keyword.

An important thing to notice here is that the benefit of having backlinks to a site is not only by bringing the website to the top of search engine results. A backlink also brings even more website traffic from clicks on that link. If you have paid for a pay per click marketing campaign, then you know how much a click is worth! Millions of users click the "get it here" link and go to the Adobe and QuickTime website at no cost to either! You do the math!

Backlinks are with no doubt your primary source of website traffic. Backlinks bring you to the top of search engine results. Backlinks establishes your website popularity. Traffic to your website is the value of your website, backlinks are what creates traffic and therefore, building backlinks should be on the top of your marketing campaign priorities to maximize the traffic and value of your website.

Backlinks are simply the links that you get to your website from other websites. If you do not have sufficient amount of links pointing to your website, you will keep striving and paying money to get a small portion of traffic that probably will not cover your expenses nor will it be worth the time you spend using other search engine optimization methods such as optimizing your website content. Even if you have the best website with the best content, if you do not have backlinks, you will not have any significant website traffic.
